Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) has proven itself time and time again to be one of the most effective hand to hand combat systems ever developed. It has been showcased by the Gracie family in mixed martial arts competitions such as the UFC. Time after time they have been able to defeat much larger opponents by using the techniques of BJJ.
The effectiveness of BJJ has led to it being used by defence and police forces across the globe as a key component of their hand-to-hand combat curriculums.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu works on the principles of leverage and control. It allows a smaller opponent is able to defend themselves against a larger opponent. if necessary, control, restrain and submit their opponent.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is divided into two main categories; Gi Jiu-Jitsu and No Gi Jiu-Jitsu.
At The Grappling Lab Prestons we provide classes for both styles.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes are suitable for both men and women of all levels from 14 years of age and above. Classes start with a skill based warm up before moving through several techniques. The class then moves on to live rolling. All while supervised by our qualified and experienced instructors. The Grappling Lab Jiu Jitsu Prestons' instructors are always on hand throughout the classes. They aim to ensure each student receives the tuition and guidance they need.
All of our kids BJJ classes consist of skills-based games and activities. These help to develop the required co-ordination and physical attributes needed for BJJ. They will then progress through to learning fundamental BJJ techniques. Teaching them skills that they will be able to use throughout their martial arts journey. These classes are all supervised by our qualified instructors. Ensuring a safe environment is maintained at all times.
Finding the right instructor is the most critical step in your martial arts journey. Your instructor is responsible for guiding your learning journey. The head instructor is also responsible for setting a positive gym culture both on and off the mats.
Nate Ellery has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2008.
Nate was promoted to the rank of black belt by Alex Prates in 2020.
His passion for the sport runs deep. He has been teaching, competing and promoting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for several years. This led him to decide to open his own academy in Prestons, City of Liverpool, NSW.
