Beyond Grappling Club is located in Monash, ACT. The BJJ Academy is run by head instructor Matt D'Aquino a BJJ Black Belt, 4th Degree Judo Black Belt and 2008 Olympian.

Beyond Grappling Club is owned and operated by Olympian and coach Matt D'Aquino and his wife Samantha. Matt has been doing Judo for over 25 years and Brazilian Jiujitsu for over 10 years. Couple this with his degree in Primary Education and his years of teaching, you know you are in the right place to have fun, get fit and learn Judo and BJJ.

Matt and his team pride themselves on teaching planned, professional classes in a fun family friendly environment. The underlying principle in all of our classes are to treat people as you would like to be treated. This simply means that we look out for one another, help each other and respect everyone in the class.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Gi)

BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique

Like Judo, Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) is a sport that focuses on using your opponents strength and force against them using leverage, positioning and technique. BJJ’s origins stem from the Japanese Kodokan Judo which was introduced to the Gracie family in the early 1900’s in Brazil.

Since then, the sport has evolved into what we have today. Here at Beyond Grappling Club we love the art of Brazilian jiu jitsu, and teach it as a whole, complete system. We are not competitive athletes who fight for points, we purely enjoy learning new concepts and ideas, and testing them out in a controlled environment.

BJJ will help you get fit, strong, improve your core strength, have fun, use your brain and learn self defence all at the same time! It is one of the fastest growing sports and it is pretty easy to know why…. it is fun, relaxing and a great way to exercise.

Our head coach Matt a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu under Black Belt Felipe Grez (under Michelle Nicolini). Our other instructors are highly skilled coaches and bring a wealth of knowlege to our coaching team
