About this Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy

Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Wollongong is located in Fairy Meadow. The BJJ Academy is run by head instructor Bernardo Magalhaes.

Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu is a martial arts style based on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). In 1995, Saulo Ribeiro received his black belt and began to building of the Ribeiro Legacy all over the world. Soon after, he was joined by his brother, Xande Ribeiro, and together the Ribeiro Brothers have become the most accomplished brothers in the history of the sport. Together they founded the University of Jiu Jitsu and current RJJA Headquarters.

Our main coach is Bernardo Trekko who is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Vinicius Aieta (head coach of Gracie Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) since 2004.

He has been training Jiu-Jitsu on a daily basis for over 19 years. Bernardo also lives the Jiu-Jitsu life style bringing to his life all the benefits that Jiu-Jitsu can offer, such as calm and happiness, confidence, hard work, perseverance, etc.

About our adult classes
BJJ - Beginners
This is an introduction level class for new starters to learn the fundamental principals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. More experienced white-belts also attend this class for extra practice and remembering their own skill level when they first started are understand your situation and will always show patients and help you learn – this is the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu way.

BJJ - Beginners & Advanced
This is a class for beginners and advanced students to train together. You will learn the fundamentals and also practice your own skills by training with more advanced students.

BJJ - All Levels
This class is for everybody and allows those with less experience and knowledge to train with those that can help them improve in a cooperative and friendly way. For the more advanced students, it allows them to practice their techniques on a variety of different bodies and impart a little of their knowledge to others.

No-Gi
The class is based on techniques of traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and the fundamental principles remain the same. Adjustments are made to compensate for the lack of a uniform to hold on to. In Submission Grappling you learn a whole new set of grips. The wrists, back of the neck, ankle, knee and elbow grips are all different than traditional Gi grips. Students learn takedowns, positions, transitions, escapes, reversals and how to apply and defend against joint locks, chokes and other submission holds.

Ribeiro Drills
This is a drills class for all students to practice the techniques of the week. Everyone can attend this class for extra practice and remember their own skill level. Repetition is the key to improve your game and become an even better jiu-jitsu practitioner.
